Aided with your trusty katana, the time manipulation drug Chronos and the rest of your assassin's arsenal, fight your way through a fractured city, and take back what's rightfully yours.
Run, sneak, walljump, grapple hook, roll, slash bullets, toss pottery, and slow down time to complete levels.

3. Sonic the Hedgehog (1991)
Sonic The Hedgehog is a 2D platform game, the first installment in Sega’s Sonic the Hedgehog series.
The game takes place on South Island and follows Sonic — an anthropomorphic blue hedgehog. The game’s antagonist, a brilliant but insane scientist Dr. Robotnik attempts to take possession of the power of six Chaos Emeralds by entrapping South Island’s animal inhabitants inside hostile robots. Sonic decides to hinder Robotnik’s plans by freeing animals and collecting the emeralds himself.
The game consists of six zones each of which is divided into three acts. In the first two acts, your goal is to reach the finish while the third act ends with a boss fight against Dr. Robotnik. After completing the sixth zone, you enter the Final Zone which consists of one act and the final battle against Robotnik. The level in the game is usually relatively roomy and implicate various ways of completing. The gameplay is centered on Sonic’s ability to run at high speed. Thereby the levels involve many slopes, loops, springs. Sonic can use Spin Attack to attack enemies or destroy certain obstacles.
The Spin Attack can be activated by gaining high speed while rolling on the ground or jumping. The players’ health depends on the main collectibles of the game – golden rings placed throughout the levels and collecting one hundred of them gives you an extra life. Also, as long as Sonic has at least one ring, upon getting hit he scatters rings instead of losing a life.
4. Not A Hero
Not A Hero is an indie cover-based 2D shooter game developed by Roll7.
A purple rabbit named BunnyLord uses time travel to become a mayor and save the world from the alien invasion. In order to prove to the people that he has to be elected, he hires freelance anti-heroes to get rid of the crime in the city.
Not A Hero features a unique pixelated style. At the beginning of each level, the player chooses one out of nine characters. Each character has their own traits and a set of unique gameplay changes. The players have a primary weapon that they can upgrade either temporarily or until the level is completed. Special weapons are also available, such as automatic turrets or exploding cats.
There is no jumping in the game, yet the player can slide. Sliding can be used to get into cover against the in-game objects or tackle enemies which makes them easier to kill. The characters can withstand several hits and the health is restored pretty fast.
The game features different objectives for each level, but every one of them is issued by BunnyLord.
5. Sonic CD
The original game was released for the Sega Genesis console with additional hardware that allowed the console from the late 80's to launch games on CD. From the point of view of gameplay, the game is not much different from other ones of the series of that time: it is a side-scrolling 2D platformer where the main goal of the player is to go as fast as possible. The game is often called the best in the series. In the development, it ought to be an improved version of the game Sonic The Hedgehog 2, but because of the low sales of the last, it was decided not to advertise connection between the two. Later the game was released on Sony PlayStation 2, Nintendo GameCube as part of the Sonic Gems Collection. The remastered version that uses a new engine was released for various platforms and mobile devices in 2011.
The plot of the game tells how Sonic goes to Never Lake, where the extraterrestrial body Little Planet appears at the end of the last month of each year. However, this time the main villain of the Sonic universe Dr. Robotnik tied the planet to the top of the mountain and began to transform its surface with the help of its robots into a huge factory. Sonic goes to the rescue to encounter not only Dr. Robotnik but also other characters in the series, such as Metal Sonic.
The gameplay of the game has not changed: Sonic must complete levels and defeat bosses at the end of each world. After collecting 50 rings, a special level becomes available, on which the player must destroy six UFOs. The version of the game for Steam includes the ability to play in 16: 9, leaderboards and a bunch achievements.

7. Mega Man 2 (1988)
In the future city of Monsteropolis, the use of robot labour has helped civilization grow more than ever before. At the forefront of this technology is Dr. Light and his assistant Dr. Wily, who are commissioned to build six robots to handle a variety of specific tasks. They are named Bombman, Gutsman, Iceman, Cutman, Elecman, and Fireman in reference to their individual prime functions. Dr. Wily, however, has bigger plans and chooses to take control of the robots and let loose destruction in a bid for world control. Dr. Light fights back with the best tool he has, an experimental human-like robot, Rock aka Mega Man, who had been tested to perform cleaning duties. Now properly armed, it's up to Mega Man to take on the maverick robots, fight his way into Dr. Wily's castle, and end this madness.
Mega Man is a side-scrolling platformer. Mega Man has the ability to jump and fire his weapon. He must travel to the levels of the six robot masters and defeat them in combat. By doing so, Mega Man is able to acquire their power for his own. These powers can then be used interchangeably with his main weapon and target the weaknesses of specific enemy bosses. Additionally, some hidden areas of the levels can only be accessed by using certain captured robot weapons. A special Magnet Beam ability can also be found which can be used to create steps.
Travelling throughout these levels, Mega Man is confronted by an army of lesser robot creations. Destroying these usually yields energy capsules (for refilling Mega Man's Energy), weapon capsules (for refilling Mega Man's special robot weapons), and extra lives shaped like Mega Man's head.

The guards quickly catch and kill him, however, right before death, he accuses Windir of arranging the murder. The guards catch you, but you manage to escape the tower. Now you have to solve the crime, find out who was behind the murder and prove yourself innocent.
Legend of Mysteria is a story-driven RPG, and unlike most other games in Labyronia series, it focuses much more on the puzzle-solving, exploration and interacting with NPCs rather than on battles. There are only a few fights in the game that are necessary to progress.
There is also no leveling up system or character advancement aside from getting new equipment and items. The combat system is turn-based. The battle screen resembles of the early Dragon Quest games: you only see the enemies but not your team. In battles, you can perform physical attacks, block, use items or magic spells. 11. Ninja Gaiden (1988)
Ninja Gaiden, released in Japan as Ninja Ryūkenden (Japanese: 忍者龍剣伝, literally "Legend of the Ninja Dragon Sword") and as Shadow Warriors in Europe, is a side-scrolling action-platforming video game. It was developed and published by Tecmo for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES); its development and release coincided with the beat 'em up arcade version of the same name. It was released in December 1988 (1988-12) in Japan, in March 1989 in North America, and in August 1991 (1991-08) in Europe. It has been ported to several other platforms, including the PC Engine, the Super NES, the Virtual Console, and mobile phones.
The story follows a ninja named Ryu Hayabusa as he journeys to America to avenge his murdered father. There, he learns that a person named "the Jaquio" plans to take control of the world by unleashing an ancient demon through the power contained in two statues. Featuring platforming gameplay similar to Castlevania, players control Ryu through six "Acts" that comprise 20 levels; they encounter enemies that must be dispatched with Ryu's katana and other secondary weapons.
Ninja Gaiden has been renowned for its elaborate story and usage of anime-like cinematic cutscenes. It received extensive coverage and won several awards from video gaming magazines, while criticism focused on its high and unforgiving difficulty, particularly in the later levels. Over fifteen years after its release, the game continued to receive acclaim from print and online publications. It was novelized as part of the Worlds of Power NES game adaptations written by Seth Godin and Peter Lerangis, and it spawned a soundtrack CD.

From Wikipedia: Similar to the first Prince of Persia, the character explores various deadly areas by running, jumping, crawling, avoiding traps, solving puzzles and drinking magic potions. Prince of Persia 2 is, however, more combat-heavy than its predecessor. In the first game, enemies appear only occasionally and are always alone, while in the sequel, up to four enemies may appear at once, sometimes flanking the player, and may even be instantly replaced by reinforcements when they are killed. As in Prince of Persia, the trick is to complete the game under a strict time limit from 75 minutes in the game that passes in real time. Lives are unlimited, but time cannot be regained (except by reverting to a previously saved game). In other areas, more significant improvements have been made. The graphics are far more complex than the simple look of the game's predecessor, the areas explored are larger, and the variety of backdrops is greater.

Now, Stalin is dead. Though resistance movements have emerged, the Soviets still stand supreme as rulers of the globe. Only a force from beyond the earth could possibly tip the balance.
Abram Krupin, leader of a resistance cell, knows this. When he sees a dog fall from the stars, then, he takes it as an omen. This dog speaks, wears silver armor, and has an arsenal of mysterious weapons. Abram calls her Laika.

Renee uses her mobility to dash through enemies. Her Power Attack is a kick that stuns, with effects depending on her boots. She frequently finds items that let her blind, stun, or poison enemies. All of these let her perform very damaging backstabs.
Equipment and Upgrade Examples:
- Mirage Dagger randomly gives her short bursts of stealth during her dashes.
- Giantstomper Boots upgrade her kicks to send enemies flying far back. Flung enemies will then damage and stun enemies they crash into. The Giantstompers also interrupt larger enemies that are stun resistant.
- Toadskin Cowters poison enemies that hit her, stunning them after a few seconds.
- Her Low Blow Upgrade permanently makes it so defeating large enemies will make her next dagger attack stun whatever she hits, even if her slash hits multiple enemies.
Blythe combines durability with a big sword that cleaves a wide area. He has a shield to block enemy attacks, and throwing axes for when he needs a faster or more long ranged option than his sword provides.
- Duskhander Sword replaces his default Power Attack's charging slash with a whirlwind spin, hitting enemies over a larger area.
- Magebane Gauntlets reduces the damage of enemy spells, while making his throwing axes destroy any enemy spell they pass through.
- Stonebeard Slab is much more durable than the default shield, but makes him move very slowly when holding the shield out to block.
- Drakefire Oil is an item the Warrior can use to make all his sword swings emit a traveling wave of flame, for a limited time.
Abbie has long ranged magic attacks that do heavy damage. Her Power Attack uses her staff for shots that are longer range and pierce multiple enemies. In a tough situation, she has limited use spells for both offense and defense.
- Salamander's Breath Staff turns her magical shots into bursts of flame that pierce even more enemies, but have very short range.
- Tremor Garb gives her a powerful footstomp that creates a shockwave to stun enemies and destroy enemy projectiles.
- Manablade Arts lets her summon a sword that does high damage, interrupts enemy attacks, can reflect enemy spells, and has a small chance to stun.
- The Mage can find powerful one use scrolls such as Fireball or Lightning Bolt, which inflict massive damage and stun to multiple enemies.

42. Edge of Hearts
Edge of hearts - a game in which you can feel yourself in the role of one of the heroes called from different worlds, relive their stories, and have fun while fighting with many enemies.
Our team loves classic beat-em-ups, adventure games, and good fantasy, so we try to translate everything that inspired us to create it. We love our project, and we want you to love the world that we came up with.
Billions of time cycles have passed since the creation of reality. One of many, separate, and related to others. The human mind can not imagine the diversity of universes and worlds that is present in what we call reality.
Nobody knows how and when everything began, and no one knows when the time came.
Time ... Thing, what holds back the onslaught of an invisible force that destroys the universe, and what itself destroys reality. Long time ago, in the depths of the worlds, the "original" time was sealed in a crystal, like the last chance to stop the death of reality. Who did this - a big mystery, but the forgotten time crystal spent billions of time cycles in a sealed form. He saw the death and birth of universes, the collation of worlds and different planes of reality, and so it could go on forever - if not for one "but" - the time shell also turned out to be not eternal, and gave a crack that entailed problems.
In all universes, something began to leak, the invisible force that in reality learned to take dark shape.
Worlds in which this power destroyed life, devoured time and reality - disappeared one by one. Disappeared forever, and it was already impossible to bring them back.
But not all worlds perished under the onslaught of dark forces - in some universes beings were found creatures of rebuffing them. All these heroes have one thing in common - there is no place for fear in their souls. They all gathered in the House of Time - the place where the same crystal was sealed, after the events in each of the worlds where they were born.
The gameplay of our game - is a 2D action with rpg elements in the colorful world. The story of the six heroes, told on behalf of each of them, will guide you through several unlike worlds and will confront incredible enemies and terrible bosses.
- Many items to improve the skills of your characters (some of which add new abilities).
- Each character has a lot of fight combos
- A unique story and location for each character, and intersecting stories for everyone. Each story will influence others so that you can see the same situation from different characters, which will clarify many details of the meta-story.
- Colorful environment and graphics
As the basis of the game, we use own engine, which allows us to provide players with a good optimization of the game process, and implement any of our ideas of graphics and gameplay.
What is implemented:
- The story for the first character, the paladin-knight Evelyn
- Character enhancement system
- Multiplayer: PVP, Co-op.
- The Arena mod.
- The second and third game characters.
- Adaptive combat system for enemies.
- New game modes.

44. Star Wars: Rebel Assault II: The Hidden Empire
Star Wars: Rebel Assault II: The Hidden Empire is a 1995 video game developed by LucasArts. It is the sequel to Star Wars: Rebel Assault, set in the Star Wars expanded universe.
The player character, Rookie One, commands ships like a YT-1300 Corellian Transport, a B-wing, and a Y-wing, and encounters new opponents, like TIE Interceptors. The fly videos seem to move and rotate according to controller inputs, creating the illusion of steering the ship (which in reality is following a 'rail' in a pre-rendered course).
It contains mostly original filming with actors and stunts, while the scenery and the space scenes were 3D rendered. According to LucasArts' magazine "The Adventurer", the game was the first media to incorporate live-action actors and footage in the Star Wars universe since Return of the Jedi. The game makes use of the INSANE game engine.

Created by Sean Han Tani and Joni Kittaka.
~Press Quotes"Even The Ocean is the sort of game I'm pretty primed to like: It's a well-designed, challenging 2D platformer with a unique energy-balancing mechanic. It features an inclusive, politically aware story, with narrative beats about community, identity and activism. It has pretty pixel art and moody music. And it was made by Analgesic studios, the two-person team behind one of my favorite titles of 2013, Anodyne, a beautiful, pointed take on 2D Zelda-style games.
That was always going to speak to me. But what I found in Even the Ocean surprised me even further: It's not just a good game, but a milestone for a sensitive, thoughtful studio working in an uncertain and often downright scary world."
-Danielle Riendeau for Waypoint
"Perhaps even more intriguing, though, is how this energy system affects the logic and culture of Even the Ocean‘s world. It makes sense that the tallest city, Whitforge City, and its celestial spire runs on Light energy. Given that it relies on the power plants that Aliph restores to keep running, the city and its Light energy also come to represent industrialism and science."
-Chris Priestman for Killscreen
"Even the Ocean is a shining example of how we should be treating diversity and accessibility in games paired with interesting plaforming challenges."
