Gathering material for crafting and building brings more “survival” elements into the old formula. Another difference is multiplayer, which comes in two kinds: you can summon other players into your game and fight bosses side by side or you can fight impostors, who are other players invading your playthrough.
Throughout the game, you are forced to explore an enormous open world of Yharnam, which looks like alternate universe Lovecraft-inspired Victorian-era England, as The Hunter. You meet horrific bosses, explore vast areas, houses and open spaces while continually dodging, attacking and trying not to get killed by a massive number of hostile NPCs.

Dishonored is the game about stealth. Or action and killing people. It is you who will decide what to do with your enemies. Now it is your duty to return the Empress daughter and restore your name. The main focus of the game is to give the player a choice. You can spare the lives of your enemies by knocking them out or making others do the job for you or brutally murder everyone in the city. Gadgets are given by Piero Joplin, Loyalists engineer and by the Outsider, who gives Corvo magical abilities. The game reacts to your choices - grim atmosphere by itself can be turned even darker by killing people or slightly lighter by not doing so. It is only a player's choice what to do with his abilities. Basing on these actions the game will give you with two different endings of the story.

7. Dragon Age: Origins
Dragon Age: Origins is the first game in BioWare’s RPG franchise Dragon Age. The game is considered to be the spiritual successor of BioWare’s classic fantasy RPG titles like Baldur’s Gate and Neverwinter Nights. Developers describe the game's setting as a mix of high fantasy and low fantasy. The storyline is centered around the event known as Blight, which occurs once in several hundred years and marks the demonic invasion in the world of Thedas.
The player creates its character by choosing its appearance, class, and race. There are 3 and three races in Dragon Age. The classes are the warrior, mage, rouge, and races are human, elf, and dwarf. The combination of class and race determines the character’s background story and the beginning of the game.
The interaction between the player, his teammates and NPC’s is an integral part of the game. The game’s storyline often makes the player take moral decisions which affect his later interaction with characters and the game world in general.

8. Assassin's Creed Origins
Assassin's Creed Origins is an open-world action game developed by Ubisoft. It further continues the series after Assassin's Creed Syndicate.
The story is set in two time periods simultaneously. In 2017, the order of Templars has recovered an ancient artifact that will allow them to seize control over humanity. Assassins plan to get the artifact back in their hands. Layla Hassan relieves the memories of two ancient Egyptians named Bayek and Aya who create the Assassins order.
Levels are open-ended which allows both stealth or open combat approaches. Players are put in an open world in which they can complete quests in order to either progress through the story, level their character up or upgrade their equipment. The "eagle vision" mode was replaced by an eagle by the name of Senu. Players can use Senu to scout the area ahead and highlight enemies.
The game features a heavily revised combat system that relies on hit-box mechanics rather than pre-determined animations as it did in the previous titles. Origins focuses on introducing various types of enemies that the players will have to learn about in order to defeat them.
9. Mass Effect 3
Mass Effect 3 is the final part of the trilogy of the same name, created by BioWare. It is an action RPG with wide customization opportunities and several endings that depend on your choices during the game. There are side quests you can complete, and a relationship system that opens new ways to fulfill tasks and lets to romance some characters. The game follows traditions of the cosmic opera genre and features interstellar travel, space fights, and interaction with various alien races. Mass Effect 3 heavily focuses on combat; the core is shooting with a cover system and pursuits.
You play as Commander Shepard (who can rather be male or female) during his fight against the race of Reapers, that invades Earth. The only hope of the world is the absolute weapon you have to create with the help of all races. The tone of the series switched to more pessimistic compared to previous games. Your actions may lead to the deaths of your friends, and this makes your choices harder.
The game is followed by Mass Effect: Andromeda, however, this installment is not a direct sequel to the trilogy and follows the story of brand new characters.
10. Battlefield 4
The game allows you to gain experience of everything that can happen with the soldiers of the special forces during the most diverse missions. On land and sea, in the city and in the air. The game responds to everyone and everything. Weather - rain and wind change everything, as in life. The wet foliage behaves differently than the dry, gusts of the wind act on everything in the entire space of the map, the shower makes the air less transparent, thickens the darkness. Water is not just a surface, but water, with waves that you swing - in multiplayer, these waves are for everyone, their behavior is calculated exactly as the real waves would behave, players feel them precisely with the same difference for their position, as if they were in the actual sea, on the same wavelength, but in different places. Seven missions, five additions, three variants of the ending. The ability to see the gameplay through the eyes of any of the players, above the entire card, in a third-person mode and in the "Free Cam" mode. Multiple multiplayer modes, classes and game factions.
11. Call of Duty: Black Ops II
Call of Duty: Black Ops II is a first-person shooter, a direct sequel to Call of Duty: Black Ops that features its protagonists. The story is divided into two time periods. It starts in 1986 with Alex Mason that has to return to work after his retirement to catch Raul Menendez, responsible for multiple crimes. The second storyline takes place in 2025; you play as David, Mason’s son, who also needs to find Menendez who sparks the second Cold War. The game has several endings depending on your actions in both storylines.
The campaign mode in Black Ops II is also selected in two parts. There are story missions, where you can make decisions that will affect the future of the characters. Additionally, Strike Force missions, available in 2025, feature permanent death - if the character is killed, you can’t return to the checkpoint, and have to continue the game without them.
Like two previous games in the series, Black Ops II has the Zombies mode with a completely new story. It starts with nuclear experiments in 2025 Nevada that cause the appearance of zombies.
12. Murdered: Soul Suspect
The hero is a policeman, talented and devoted to duty. But there is a clarification - this is a dead policeman, killed because of his work, but he did not leave the world, he turned into a ghost and did not lose his passion for investigations.
A hero can do many things in our world, but not all. Can be present everywhere and even pass through the walls (but not in closed houses, only through open doors and windows). Can see what ordinary people see, read, think. But he can not take and move things, cannot talk with living people - for actions with objects and communication he has to find a girl-medium.
In the game, you need to collect evidence and draw conclusions from this. Ways to extract proof are sometimes very exotic. For example, a hero can penetrate the memory of a witness and find there information that the witness himself cannot remember. The hero can meet other ghosts, who were once people and killed - after talking with them, you can learn about the circumstances of this.
Finding evidence and reasoning is not the only thing that you have to do. The hero can be killed a second time, and it will be definitive - some disembodied beings seek to destroy the hero's soul. But they are vulnerable, and the hero can kill them.
The game that started the popular Crysis series. You control a member of Delta Force special military squad, codenamed Nomad. Your squad was sent to rescue a group of American archeologists who are about to be imprisoned by North Korea. The archeologists recently made a world-changing discovery that needs to be protected by any means. Soon it turns out your real enemy is not North Koreans, but rather something not from this world. The plot is told partly through cutscenes, but mostly through in-game events that the player participates in.
All Delta Force soldiers are equipped with super-powered futuristic Nanosuits, which are the trademark feature of Crysis series. The Nanosuits provide four types of powers that can (and should) be switched on a fly during battles. "Strenght" enhances the wearer's abilities in melee combat, "Armor" protects him from the damage, "Speed" allows you to move faster, and "Cloak" renders you almost invisible to opponents. Besides the story mode, there are two multiplayer modes that allow up to 32 players to participate. Instant Action mode is a traditional deathmatch, while Power Struggle mode features two teams (designed to look like American and North Korean) trying to destroy each other’s bases.
14. Sniper Elite V2
Sniper Elite V2 is a third-person tactical shooter, the second installment in Sniper Elite series and a full-fledged remake of the first game. The game takes place during the Battle of Berlin in 1945. You play as an American military officer and skilled sniper Karl Fairburne on his mission to neutralize German scientists involved in the development of V-2 ballistic missile.
The gameplay encourages the player to kill enemies from a distance, without being noticed. Karl can have numerous different weapons, including machine guns, pistols, traps and others. However, his primary weapon is his sniper rifle. Developers intended to make shooting sniper rifle more realistic than in other games. Several elements affect shots such as the wind direction, bullet drop, and so on.
One the game’s key features is “X-Ray Kill Cam.” It activates when the player makes the skillful shot and shows the bullet trajectory, an impact it made on the enemy’s body and the damage that its organs took.
15. The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited
The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited is the remastered version of The Elder Scrolls Online. The main difference between the two versions is switching from the subscription model to buy-to-play monetization along with several improvements and re-branding.
TES: Online is an MMORPG and the first multiplayer installment in the series. It's set on the continent of Tamriel, long before the events of offline titles. Following the tradition of the franchise, the story starts with you being imprisoned. You escape and start to search for the soul that was stolen from you. Besides the storyline, the game features nonlinear gameplay with multiple side quests, and you can freely roam around the world. In general, the plot is indirectly connected to previous TES titles, such as Morrowind and Skyrim.
In fact, The Elder Scrolls Online provides the same gaming experience as offline titles but shared with friends. You can widely customize your character, choosing from ten races and five classes and developing different skills and abilities.
16. Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen
Expansion pack for the original game, released in Japan and a full release for the rest of the world - Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen is an action-RPG from a third-person perspective. The story unfolds in a medieval world filled with magic, riddles and mysterious creatures.
According to the plot, the dragon attacks the village in which the main character lives. Trying to protect his home, the character controlled by the player becomes a victim of a beast. Dragon takes his heart and flies away to the vast unknown. The hero goes after him to discover the mysteries of the dragon and find out why he needs a human heart.
The open world of the game is available immediately after the introduction of the introductory mission. The player is invited to choose a character class and its gender. One of the innovations is the system of partners. As the game progresses, the main character will be joined by comrades-in-arms. Thanks to the size of the game world and its details, the game is often compared with The Elder Scrolls series, and for a dynamic battle system with Devil May Cry.
17. Dragon Age 2
Dragon Age II is the second part of the Dragon Age series of dark fantasy games. The series is inspired by the classic Bioware RPGs like Baldur's Gate and Neverwinter Nights, and some of the game’s writers have previously worked on these titles.
Dragon Age II is set in the medieval world of Thedas, inhabited by mythological races like elves and dwarves. This high fantasy setting has a definitive "Dark Ages" atmosphere. The game continues the plot of Dragon Age: Origins, and the player can choose which ending of the original game to use as a backstory. The player assumes the role of a protagonist named Hawke. He or she is a human who had to flee from an invasion of the monsters called Darkspawns. Over the course of the game, Hawke eventually rises to power and influences the fate of the whole Thedas.
The main protagonist is fully customizable. The player can choose his or her first name, gender, appearance and character class. There are three classes available: mage, warrior, and rogue. The player controls not only Hawke but also his or her party that can include up to three companions at once. You can only control one character at a time, however, switching between them while leaving the rest to AI control.
Dragon Age II introduced the dialogue wheel that was borrowed from the Mass Effect series. Dialogue options usually have a tone that defines how other characters perceive each line and, eventually, the protagonist's personality.

18. Crysis 2
The sequel to Crysis is set three years after the original. All events of the 2020 incident, especially the human-alien conflict, were kept secret, and CryNet Systems is hunting for survivors of the first contact. However, the extraterrestrial race of Ceph did not give up its plans on the Earth. Crysis 2 introduces the new protagonist, a US Marine codenamed Alcatraz. Prophet, the squad leader from Crysis, also makes an appearance, and his recorded memories guide Alcatraz as he uncovers the alien plot. As in every game of the series, the protagonist is armed with a futuristic Nano Muscle Suit, a military exoskeleton that adsorbs damage, heals and strengthens the wearer. The suits were updated since Crysis, introducing modules for suit customization and a new Tactical mode. The player can now use multiple suit modes at the same time.
Most levels are set in the urban environment this time to distinguish the game from the original. Alcatraz is eventually tasked with defending New York from the alien invasion, and the battle ensues at iconic places like Times Square. The game also includes a multiplayer mode that pits the United States Marine Corps against C.E.L.L. mercenaries.
19. CRYSIS 3
A game that began life as a tech demo, but became a meme instead. The question "But can it run Crysis?" is the true measurement of PC power. Designed by the German studio Crytek Crysis 3 continues the story begun in the second part.
The year is 2047, New York, where evil corporation CELL built Nanodome on top of the city and turned the metropolis into a real jungle. In addition to mundane enemies, the alien race of Ceph threatens humanity who pursues its goals. The player gains control of Prophet - a soldier in nano suit, whose primary goal is to stop the leader of the alien race.
Turning into a jungle landscape one of the most recognizable cities in the world, allowed developers to diversify the gameplay. Together with the nano suit, they transformed the classic first-person shooter into a vast fast-paced sandbox. It depends solely on the player how to complete each level. In addition to a solo story campaign, the game has a multiplayer with 8 modes and 12 maps.
20. The Orange Box
This is one of the most original events in the gaming industry - the simultaneous release of five AAA class games by Valve within one set.
The Orange Box is one “box” that was sold for the price of one full-fledged release of the AAA game, but included not one game, but five:
Half-Life 2 Supplement: Episode One,
Half-Life 2 Supplement: Episode Two,
Team fortress 2
The situation around the release of The Orange Box
The appearance of The Orange Box had several reasons. The development of three games at Valve went in parallel and ended almost simultaneously. At the same time, the games industry has matured to redefine the relationship between game manufacturers and game sellers. In particular, the sellers did not want to trade additions to games.
By this time, Valve had already had problems distributing Half-Life 2: Episode One and decided to release Half-Life 2: Episode Two in the same set with other games for the price of one big release.
As a result, not only Half-Life 2: Episode Two, but also games that were completely atypical for the market at that time: good multiplayer game Team Fortress 2 and a small indie game Portal, made good progress on the market.
The release of The Orange Box also solved the main problem of the game Portal. This game was so different from everything in the world of games that the producers didn’t really know exactly how to explain to people what this game was good for.
As part of the set, the game somehow fell into the hands of many people, they tried to play it, and later recognized its original features as its strengths and not its shortcomings. In particular, such a find as GLaDOS received great approval.
Half-Life 2 and its predecessors
This game is a sequel to Half-Life, released six years after the first game.
The first Half-Life has opened a new stage in the video game industry, especially in the shooter genre. Its innovations include:
- the development of the plot completely inside the playing space without using video,
- high artificial intelligence of opponents,
- the hero has allies,
- A new level of player interaction with the environment, as well as the constant need for such interaction for progress in the game. A lot of puzzles are also built on this interaction.
The game is not divided into levels or missions. The player sees only through the eyes of the main character - Gordon Freeman. The hero can not be seen from the side, you can not hear his voice - this is done to fully immerse the player in the game.
The arsenal of weapons in Half-Life is a combination of human (including powerful experimental) and alien weapons.
In addition to 14 types of weapons that the hero can carry with him, occasionally there are stationary weapons, which can also be used. There are also grenades and booby traps.
The action of the first half-life takes place in the underground Black Mesa Research Facility. They are experimenting with the so-called “Anomalous Material” - a crystal, the error in working with which opens a portal to another dimension, from which hostile aliens invade Earth.
The hero, Gordon Freeman, worked as a researcher at this place, and after the disaster he tries to get out of the complex, penetrate the alien dimension and destroy the leader of a hostile alien civilization, Nihilanth, to close the portal and stop the alien invasion. In the final of the first game Gordon succeeds.
There are three additions to the original Half-Life:
- Half-Life: Opposing Force (1999),
- Half-Life: Blue Shift (2001),
- Half-Life: Decay (2001).
The events of the main plot and official additions occur simultaneously, as a result of which the paths of the characters can intersect, and the events can affect both the one addition and the others.
Sometimes you have to play is not a character of Gordon, and you can see Gordon from the side.
continues the story about twenty years after the incident at Black Mesa, in one of the largest cities on Earth, located somewhere in Eastern Europe - City 17.
At the beginning of the game, Gordon Freeman finds himself on a train arriving in City 17, unarmed and without his protective suit. City 17 is ruled by a totalitarian government headed by Wallace Breen, former administrator of the Black Mesa research center. After the events of the first game, the power of aliens has been established all over the Earth - aliens rule through people who have passed to their side. Wallace Breen - the head of these traitors and the main agent of enemies.
Half-Life 2 has become an even more noticeable breakthrough for the video game industry. The main technological advances of Half-Life 2 are:
- the new engine, which raised the level of character animation,
- even more powerful artificial intelligence of opponents,
- realistic physics of the game world,
- even more intense interaction of the player with the environment,
Half-Life 2: Episode One
This is a continuation of the plot of Half-Life 2 and the first part of the trilogy of episodes - the sequels of Half-Life 2.
For much of Episode One, the player interacts with the computer character Alyx Vance. The plot of the episode continues the story of Half-Life and Half-Life 2, and begins from the moment at which the previous game ended.
Episode One is significantly shorter than Half-Life 2, all the action takes place in the City 17.
Half-Life 2: Episode Two
- the second part in the trilogy of episodes, continuing the plot of the computer game Half-Life 2.
The creators of the game try to base each episode on a specific theme. As part of this strategy, Episode Two focuses on open spaces, long journeys (even by car) and less linear gameplay than in previous games in the Half-Life series. Locations include abandoned mines, ant-lion's nest and missile base.
The game develops immediately after the events of Episode One in a wooded area near the destroyed City 17.
Alyx Vance is present in the game, but less active than in the previous episode
Each following addition is noticeably more perfect technically. This is part of the game manufacturer's strategy, which thus solved the problem of a gradual development of the game and the absence of long waiting periods for consumers.
The events of the game Portal take place in the Half-Life universe, in the Aperture Science Laboratories Computer-Aided Enrichment Center. The heroine is a girl named Chell.
The gameplay is based on solving puzzles using a portable device Aperture Science Handheld Portal Device. This device allows you to create portals on flat surfaces through which you can instantly move yourself or objects in space.
At the same time, only two portals can be opened, differing in color - blue and orange. When you open a new portal, the previously opened portal of the same color closes. In addition, portals of the same color can open on top of each other, while the portal “opposite” in color should be opened to the side.
As the game progresses, tasks become more difficult, and to solve it is necessary to combine various techniques. Obstacles also arise: walls on which it is impossible to create a portal, energy fields. Passing through such fields destroys the items that the player carries, and also closes the open portals, leaving only the device for creating them.
An essential part of the game is the GLaDOS, an artificial intelligence and self-awareness supercomputer that was developed for the Aperture Science Laboratories Computer-Aided Enrichment Center, but went out of control and captured the Enrichment Center.
GLaDOS is an abbreviation for "Genetic Lifeform and Disk Operating System". GLaDOS is a female character.
In the game Portal GLaDOS is both the enemy of the player and his guide to the Enrichment Center. GLaDOS observes and controls the passage of tests, gives instructions on the use of objects of the Enrichment Center, sometimes gives advice and cautions. The voice of GLaDOS accompanies the player throughout the game, but until the very end it is unknown who or what GLaDOS is and what role it plays in Aperture Science.
Team fortress 2
Team Fortress was originally created as a modification for the Quake game. The success of this game led to the development of Team Fortress 2 - a game separate from Quake. The game with this name appeared after many years of work. The game had its own visual style and plot, full of hidden and explicit meanings. By genre, the game Team Fortress 2 is a multiplayer team shooter.
The world of Team Fortress 2 is the arena where the organizations RED and BLU, created by the Mann brothers, Blutarch and Redmond, secretly confront. The brothers competed for the land of the father.
RED - short for Reliable Excavation & Demolition. RED builds reservoirs, mines, produces bread and beer. The buildings of RED and its equipment are painted in red and yellow, the main building materials are wood, red brick and dark red metal sheets.
BLU is short for Builders League United. The company builds hydroelectric power plants, owns dairy farms. Buildings BLU are made in blue and white colors of white brick and metal.
RED and BLU are waging an irreconcilable struggle, which takes various forms - from unfair competition in business to armed clashes between specially hired mercenaries.
Clashes take the form of seizing and holding control of territory, seizing important heights, destroying enemy bases and industrial espionage.
Clashes between companies take place at various industrial sites, such as mines, reservoirs, quarries and power plants. The secret bases of corporations, computer centers and rocket bunkers under the guise of such organizations are often hidden.
The game takes place on separate territories, called game maps. Each map refers to one of several game modes.
Two teams take part in the game, which differ in the color of the form - Red and Blue - these are mercenaries of two opposing companies.
Teams consist of characters that can be live players or bots. Each class of characters has weapons in their arsenal, allowing them to attack opponents from the other team, and other things designed for different purposes.
Game mode defines the tasks of each team on the map.
Capture The Flag
Capture the files
Control Points (in two versions: Symmetric Control Point and Attack / Defense)
King of the hill
Mann vs. Machine
The game has several classes of playing characters, quite different from each other. In numerous additions to the game there are changes and additions for the game modes, and for individual classes of characters.

28. Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X.
Tom Clancy's HAWX (high-altitude warfare) promises to revolutionize the way players think about combat in the sky. The story begins in the year 2012. As the era of the nation-state draws quickly to a close, the rules of warfare evolve even more rapidly. More and more nations become increasingly dependent on private military companies (PMCs), elite mercenaries with a lax view of the law. The Reykjavik Accords further legitimize their existence by authorizing their right to serve in every aspect of military operations. While the benefits of such PMCs are apparent, growing concerns surrounding giving them too much power begin to mount. The Enhanced Reality System is the backbone of the HAWX flight experience: radars and incoming missile detection, anti-crash system, damage control system, tactical map and information relay, and weapons trajectory control. E.R.S. also allows players to issue orders to their squadron, making this system as iconic to HAWX as the Cross-Com system is to Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter. Players can ease into their flight missions and gain a level of comfort with the use of the assistance mode. Once employed, players can take full advantage of their technological support through the E.R.S and gain maximum piloting security. If the situation calls for the player to unleash the full potential of the aircraft, the assistance mode can be switched off and all safety features will be deactivated. For the first time ever in the air-combat genre, players can experience the entire solo campaign in four-player JUMP IN co-op mode. In PVP mode, players can challenge up to 15 friends in intense dogfighting sessions and find out who's the top gun. Winning players are rewarded with experience points and money to unlock more weapons. Players have the opportunity to take the throttle of over 50 of the world's most famous aircrafts, as well as being able to dogfight over realistic modern landscapes that have endured years of post-war trauma.

43. King Arthur - The Role-playing Wargame
Welcome to the lost age of chivalry, where magic and myth is alive, and you are destined to be one of the living legends: Arthur, the son of Uther Pendragon, the Once and Future King of the prophecies.
Fulfill your destiny and claim your rightful place on the throne of Britannia. Recruit fabled knights to your Round Table: send them to adventures or battles, let them gather knowledge and artifacts, see how they become the most powerful heroes of the realm. Build the majestic Camelot, but beware: there will be enemies, both mortal and otherworldly that will try to destroy you. Send your heroes and their followers to battle with legendary warriors and monsters and see how the folk of the faeries and the saints set against wizards and evil knights.
- Real-time fantasy battles: spectacular fight scenarios on grandiose battlefields, featuring thousands of soldiers and powerful heroes such as Sir Lancelot, Sir Galahad or Merlin. Battles rely on the strengths and weaknesses of the different arms with several tactical possibilities, the abilities of the units and the heroes, monsters and most of all, spells.
- Turn-based Campaign Map: Britannia is represented as a fully three dimensional topographic map where heroes move freely, conquer provinces or find adventures. In the turn-based campaign the changing seasons have effect on the gameplay and the graphics of the Campaign Map.
- Create your own legend! The saga of King Arthur is an epic tale about the conquest of Britannia through a story-based campaign. The Campaign is divided into chapters, like a chronicle, each with a unique tone and theme. The chapters all have objectives, long- and short-term goals that also fit together to draw a grandiose picture of an unfolding storyline. There are many possible events and outcomes that all influence the legend itself and determine the ending of the storyline.
- Morality Chart: Every decision in the game will influence the position of King Arthur on the Morality Chart. King Arthur might become a Christian ruler or the Follower of the Old Faith; a rightful or a ruthless monarch. These choices unlock special contents, allies, heroes, units and developments.
- RPG elements: Heroes lead the armies and learn skills, spells and abilities from an ability tree for experience points. Heroes can also use magic items or become liege lords, entrusted with the leadership of a province, which is the best way to have them indebted. Arranging their marriages with the nice damsels of Arthur’s court also raises their loyalty.
- Adventures: adventuring is the essence of King Arthur’s world. Quests pop up on the Campaign Map regularly. In technical terms it is a short story where the chosen knight has to make important decisions. Some adventures end in battles on special battlemaps.
