1. Human: Fall Flat

Human: Fall Flat is a low-poly adventure game with platforming elements and physics-based puzzles. You play as Bob, a fully customizable character that travels from one dream to another. Bob has neither no background nor superpowers. His abilities don’t differ from yours: he can grab things, climb ledges and so on.

Every level consists of multiple puzzles that can be solved in different ways. You can push and pull carts, break walls and interact with everything else comparable to your own size. The game heavily focuses on physics. Puzzles’ solutions are intuitive and make you act like in real life. In their core levels are quite linear: you need to reach the door at another side of the location to get into the next dream. While at the first levels you need to find exits from tiny rooms, the further you go, the larger locations become. There is a lot of content in the game in general, and it clearly references the sandbox genre where you can do almost everything you want.

2. Antichamber

You control a nameless and faceless protagonist, who starts in a white chamber in the center of a high-tech maze. Your goal is to move forward through the maze by solving many difficult and intricate puzzles. Antichamber reminds Portal game series and Cube films to some extent, but with more emphasis on puzzle solving, sketchy graphics, and very little plot. Unlike in Portal or Cube, the protagonist cannot die, even if the player fails. There are no traps, and the only penalty for failure is that you have to try again. The protagonist is armed with a variety of “guns”, each of them allows you to manipulate a certain set of objects in the maze.
Antichamber is defined by its impossible, non-euclidian geometry that bends 3D space in the ways not found in the real world. All the regular laws of physic do not apply in this place that seems to be straight out of M. C. Escher's drawings. Doors can become portals leading to an unpredictable place, or even different places, depending on how you enter them. The visual style of Antichamber is very minimalistic. Walls, doors, and ladders are only outlined with sketch-like black contours, while any color serves to attract the player's attention to a certain object. Everything else is blank white, which makes for a cold, neat atmosphere of a math exercise.

3. Gang Beasts

Gang Beasts is a silly multiplayer party game with surly gelatinous characters, brutal mêlée fight sequences, and absurdly hazardous environments.

Watch in horror and amusement as gangs of gummy miscreants fight to grab, push, pull, and force their enemies from suspended window cleaning scaffolds, neglected funfair attractions, and commercial haulage trucks.

Gasp with shock and delight at the spectacle of farcically pugnacious thugs punching, kicking, and throwing their foes into unspecified hazardous machinery, flaming incinerator pits, and the path of moving trains.

Electric Highways is a game that's all about experience and exploration. The setting takes place in a surreal, virtual world, made out of abstract 3D graphics, where the player must explore ten levels, each with an individual theme. Some levels contain simple puzzles, but for the most part the main focus is exploration. In some ways, the game is like an interactive conceptual music album, where each level is like a short song.
The year is 2072. Virtual reality has become a worldwide phenomenon, allowing people to sink into the virtual web, while experiencing isolation in real life. A VR engineer has finished his virtual reality project, but before uploading it on the web, he decides to visit it for the last time, plunging deeper into his own surreal world.
The atmosphere of the game has been inspired by early 80's electronic music (Gary Numan, Kraftwerk), visual style of games like LSD: Dream Emulator and the 1984 version of the film Metropolis. The project uses 3D engine from 90's.

29. The Pasture

The Pasture gives you a truly innovative gameplay and experimental possibilities that will allow you to experience yourself as a different character – a member of mysterious modern art elite.
The Pasture is a product of endless self-reflection of modern games, where all the different genres and control styles are constantly flowing one into another, making it hard sometimes to even tell where exactly is the player, has he finished the game, is he a protagonist or only a hostage of the incorrectly programmed NPC.
The Pasture is a simulator of art life and people living it. One of the concepts of this world: “die or have your own exhibit at a big museum” allows a player to experience numerous funny and sometimes weird emotions.
The game mechanic in The Pasture is totally nontrivial. It may seem very simple, but yet it gives you a whole range of feelings: from hopelessness before the museum staff and famous artists to a vague understanding that it’s the implicit methods in this game that will allow you to “move forward”.
The game includes more than 30 pieces of contemporary Russian art, so you will have a great opportunity to fill out possible gaps in your education.Features:

  • Several playable characters.
  • You can create your own exhibition at a museum.
  • A possibility of dying more than once.
  • The real prototypes. The game takes place in the existing Russian galleries.
  • The ability to earn rewards and set records.
  • Meet the artists and learn about the most significant works of Russian contemporary art.

46. Dimensional

Dimensional throws you into dangerous chambers to save an alien race. This is not a passive experience. To succeed, you'll have to feel and act as though you're really there. You'll be standing, moving around, manipulating objects with realistic physics and reacting to dangers.

  • Nausea-free - a very comfortable experience that won't make you feel sick
  • Real-life movement - walk, duck, dodge, lean, jump to avoid obstacles and search your environment. Only 1.2m x 50cm required to play. Full room-scale supported.
  • Puzzles - you'll need brains, reflexes and precision to beat the chambers
  • Explore - find the hidden messages and learn the truth
  • Mic support - expect to be heard as well as seen
  • Choice - teleporting for comfort + optional FPS-style controls

More than just puzzles and action, I'm trying to put you in a variety of unique situations that can only be appreciated in VR.
There's lots to experience including:
  • Slide along a narrow ledge as a giant pendulum swings inches from your face
  • Test your courage by jumping off a high platform.
  • Carefully move your head through a narrow gap filled with spikes
  • Knock blocks out of a wall without bringing the roof crashing down on your head
  • Dodge and jump over lasers
  • + lots more

There's a story for you to find. It's up to you if you want to find the hidden messages and obscure areas and work out what's going on, or just play through the levels and enjoy the puzzles.Area required
1.2m x 50cm required to play
Dimensional uses its own chaperone system which allows you to move around even if you only have a small playing area.
If you don't think you have enough room, try the free demo first. You may be surprised how little room you need. The story
A trans-dimensional race is being hunted to extinction. Many years ago humans helped them build hidden chambers on Earth to safely hide their offspring. Now the hunters have built machines to smash their way into the chambers.
Can you rescue their offspring before it's too late?
The chambers are filled with traps and challenges that can only be completed by a human working together with an alien droid.Your companion
You're accompanied by Digby. He's not the brightest or happiest droid, but give him a target and he'll hit it. Use him to manipulate objects or for more destructive purposes. Think of Digby as your hands and fists.FPS-style controlsFPS mode allows you to move using analogue sticks like traditional first person shooters. Only use FPS mode if it doesn't cause nausea. You can toggle between teleporting and FPS mode as required. You need to exit FPS mode to teleport.
To activate:
* On the HTC Vive, click the grip button to toggle FPS-mode on and off. Use the right track pad to rotate and the left track pad to move.
* On the Oculus DK2 / Rift, hold down your left shoulder button (or right grip button for OculusTouch). Use the right analogue stick to rotate and the left to move.
When in FPS mode you drive your floor grid around. For this to make sense you should face forwards (as indicated by directional arrows) before starting to move. Alternative see the in-game menu to change the forward direction to be controller by the direction of your laser pointer. An experimental game
I'm a solo-developer and spend all my time experimenting in VR to see what works best. Dimensional is a result of my continuing experiments to see how to make the most of this new technology and create highly immersive experiences.
Standing and using real-life movements is a key component. I wanted to allow as many people to play as possible so I use a custom chaperone system where you only need enough room to take a couple of steps forward.
Teleporting provides a nausea-free way to move around, but FPS-style controls can be used if you prefer (teleporting is still required to jump over gaps and reach heights)
Dimensional insists you move. You'll have to walk, crouch and lean as you explore and duck and even jump to avoid dangers. The ability and requirement to react as you would in real life increases immersion.
Interacting with the environment and seeing it react as expected (including dynamic lighting and shadows) makes the chambers feel more believable.
The microphone is used so that you can be seen and heard. Shout at droids (some will shoot at you), or activate sensors with your voice.
To complete the chambers you'll need to solve problems as though you are really there rather than thinking about it like a typical game.

48. A Thimbleful of Panic

A Thimbleful of Panic

A pseudo proc-gened, fragmented narrative, first person, linear exploration game?

Go for a little explore, in one direction only.
And as you go down, always down, you'll encounter little objects, little fragments of a story, new shapes, new sounds and new colours.

I think you might find it meditative, trance-inducing or intriguing. It might last for ten minutes, but it could go on infinitely. There isn't a bottom

Despite the title, I don't expect it will induce any panic.

It's the first game I've made and so maybe it's a bit rough around the edges, but I'd be very happy if you took it for a spin and I hope you enjoy it.
